I think the article said to think more along the lines of current Scandinavia than the examples you provided because I thought the same thing when I first read it. I'm not really defending the article, but I can kind of see where it was going with it. I think when you break it down into more simple terms and remove the political aspect it can make some sense.

I don't see how one can properly test that hypothesis without including Soviet Russia and Maoist China in their sample.

And if the hypothesis can only be supported by focusing on Scandinavian countries, then the obvious implication is that their positive sex culture comes from being Scandinavian, not socialist.

I agree with you. There are probably dozens of things I could list about those countries that likely has more to do with it.

Most capitalist countries provide what socialists dream of. Those things require wealth, something socialism, the collective ownership of the means of production leading to authoritarianism, fails to do.
