Fifteen elementary school-age children were attacked by a dog at an Oklahoma playground this week, animal welfare officials said.
The dog, described as an un-neutered male pit bull mix, bit several third- and fourth-graders at Fillmore Elementary School just before 1 p.m. Monday, officials told KJRH. At least 12 of them were taken to a local hospital.

A brutal pit bull attack that left a Waverly Hall woman disfigured and her Siberian Husky dead has drawn a rising tide of outrage.
Residents say they long have complained about the loose pit bulls, but Talbot County authorities failed to act.

More aggressive or not they are genetically programed to attack differently which makes them more dangerous and their dominance of the "humans killed by dogs " list makes that clear. I would guess if a list of "dogs killed by dogs" was kept , bull dogs would dominate that too.
I say each state should phase the breed out. I take any controlling action by government very seriously but dangerous pet bans are nothing new, they just haven't been applied to dogs yet.

I don't believe it would be a bad thing to see this breed of dog phased out of existence.

When the Shepard or Collie bites it often bites once or twice and backs off. Pits have a "don't $#@!ing stop once you start " gene that kicks in too often.

Any large-ish dog that in any way resembles an American Pit Bull Terrier, AmStaff or Bulldog will be labeled, by those who don't know what they're talking about - and that often includes the police and even shelter authorities - as a "pit bull" or "pit mix". It might only be a quarter pit bull and resemble one of those breeds in only the most superficial way, but if it becomes aggressive and injures someone, that's another "pit bull attack" for the media to chew on...and another deceptively skewed statistic for the ignorant to repeat.

That is exactly correct. A large percentage of "Pit Bull" attacks don't involve Pit Bulls at all.

If you want a dog go to the pound and get a rescue animal. Pure breeds all have their particular health issue anyway- their family tree is really more like a telephone pole. And when you pay too much for a pure bred, a rescue dog is tossed into a crematorium.

You can raise one to be a seemingly friendly dog. Not every pit bull is going to attack a human being, but it’s foolish to trust any pit bull. Especially around small children.
