Trump says US will withdraw from Syria 'very soon'

    https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/29/politics/trump-withdraw-syria-pentagon/index.html

Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump said Thursday that the US would "be coming out of Syria like very soon," just hours after the Pentagon highlighted the need for US troops to remain in the country for the immediate future.

"We're knocking the hell out of ISIS. We'll be coming out of Syria like very soon. Let the other people take care of it now," Trump told supporters at an Ohio event on infrastructure."We are going to have 100% of the caliphate, as they call it, sometimes referred to as land ... But we are going to be coming out of there real soon. We are going to get back to our country, where we belong, where we want to be," Trump added.

    Good.

I imagine we will still provide air support if needed.

The Israeli ambassador said it was a good thing.

Israelis fear that the defeat of the Islamic State, while welcome, leaves in place Iran, an enemy, and Russia, a country that is friendly to Israel but whose interests are not as aligned as the United States. Russia, notably, has been Iran’s de facto ally in Syria. The U.S. presence, comparatively, is limited, but simply by maintaining a presence, the United States signals that it has Israel’s back — freeing Israel to take action, as it did in February when Israel retaliated with airstrikes on Iranian targets in Syria after an Iranian drone entered Israeli airspace.

We'll have to wait and see how Israel responds. Up to this point, the administration has been pandering to the whims of Israel.

Last weekend, Trump reached an agreement with President Erdogan to sell the Turks 3.5 billion dollars worth of patriot missile defense and that may have played a role in this abrupt decision to withdrawn U.S. troops from Syria. The withdrawal of U.S. troops may also be a gift by Trump to Putin. This is crucial for Vladimir Putin. He needed a stronghold in that part of the world, he ran out of places and Syria was his last best hope and the U.S. was the last best option to stop him. Syria signed agreements to give the Russians an air base and a naval base.

Trump seems to be giving a lot away for free and we all know Trump doesn't give away anything unless he gets something in return. The Trump administration and spokespeople like Sarah Sanders and Kellyanne Conway claim that ISIS is defeated in that area. They're only partially correct. There's no more than a two thousand in that area of Syria where the U.S. coalition has been focused but there's tens of thousands of ISIS fighters around Idlib, Syria and they will once again gain a stronghold once the U.S. moves out. This is going to be a big problem going forward for the U.S., Jordan and Israel for years to come.

I ask, what is the U.S. and Trump getting for this? We seem to have abruptly walked away from the table before the table even started the bidding.
The Russians have had a foothold in Syria for decades. The US did nothing to ever challenge that.

Israel will do what it needs to do. They have drawn a line that Iran can't cross. They enforce it.

Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. That's where an embassy normally is.

Syria is no longer a concern to us. If ISIL is defeated why do we need to be there?

See, even when Trump does what the loony left wants he get $#@!ed at.

Israel is about to take care of Lebanon. It won't be like last time when Obama stopped them from attacking Hezbollah where they were hiding. Trump isn't going to do that.

Israel will fight no holds barred this time.

Through the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995, correct?

If the withdrawal is a gift to Putin, what was the insertion of thousands of US ground troops?

Cause it wasn't a problem for Obama and previous Presidents remembering this President hasn't been in office for even 2 years.

I ask, what is the U.S. and Trump getting for this? We seem to have abruptly walked away from the table before the table even started the bidding.
He's bringing the troops home. He criticized Iraq, he's always said he'd pull out when the job is done, otherwise it 'seems' to amateurs(like you) to be an occupation.

The Congress voted overwhelmingly in 1995 to move our embassy to Jerusalem, even at the time threatening State Department funds unless it was done. Each President since 1995 had delayed the effort despite it being supported by We the People. Clearly.

Humble Pi seems to know much on this topic, HP when did We the People first vote for our embassy to be in Jerusalem?

And why I oppose arguments when it's asserted that US policy and influence has such great sway. It doesn't. Russia, Turkey, Iran, and even Iraq have much more influence on events and outcomes in Syria. This forum discussed at length the influence of Turkey on ISIS, foreign influence from Saudi Arabia and Palestinian terror organizations, even al-Qaeda was caught up in the Syrian conflict.
