You make some good points but you take it to an absurd level and you derail threads that werent intended to be political or to praise war or the govt or whoever else you hate.
A thread celebrating the military is political whether you realize it or not.

There is no ritual involved with these families. It is about children and spouses and siblings being reunited with a loved one after a prolonged and potentially dangerous absence. It is simple human interaction.

I was on a lot of deployments over the years, some were pretty long, some were in and out. Each time though, members of the unit and their families never knew whether they would see each other again after the wheels went up. for them, it wasn't about politics. For these Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines who stand on the wall today, it isn't about politics and empire. Hell, it wasn't about politics and empire for a Roman Legionnaire marching off to Gaul. The separation and hopefully, reunion of families has been a part of soldiering for as long as there have been soldiers.

I know... you are a spoiled little kid who needs attention, but you don't have to $#@! all over every thread to get it.
The military is political. Indeed, it is arguably the most politically charged organization in the history of civilization. Threads like this are an attempt to strip the military of its political identity and purpose and to turn it into a sappy TV commercial.

By the way, a lot of the people returning home were not in any real danger during their deployments. Most military personnel are in non-combat specialties like administration and logistics. Chances are, the majority of these soldiers sat on their asses for seven months inside a secure compound with three hot meals a day, clean sheets, satellite TV, video games, weight rooms, and just about any other modern amenity you can think of.

Oh, horse$#@!. I am pretty sure that was the last thing in the world Gamewell was thinking about when starting this thread. Until you came along and smeared feces all over it, it was a thread about the joy of reunion. There was nothing political about it.

Give it a rest. You are not accomplishing anything but making yourself look petty, childish, and stupid. Go sit in a corner with Obvious. You two can stroke your egos by sitting around and telling each other how smart and relevant you are.

EVERYONE is in danger on a deployment, but that isn't the point. The point is that these families were separated for an extended period of time. The kids were without a parent. the husbands and wives were without a spouse. They had to deal not only with the absence, but the stress of uncertainty.

Except no one here is glorifying "sending them off to die".

Believe the point of the thread is to recognize/respect the emotional impact (and relief) that is experienced when families get reunited.

Not sure I agree but I was responding to the tangent the thread went off to.

He was showing the warmth of soldiers coming home and the greeting their kids and families gave them It wasnt political in any way shape or form nor was it intended to be.
