Never mind the House. Dirty Harry has too many colleagues from gun-loving states facing re-election. Some who aren’t facing re-election are nervous about a constituent backlash.
As well they might be. Consider that the 1994 Assault Weapon Ban help bring about a GOP House for the first time in decades. The gun confiscation issue cost Al Gore the election in 2000.
