You can respond to an insult without violating the rules as in your example. If a Mod says otherwise they are incorrect.

Is it forum policy to allow insults to go unpunished if the person being insulted merely responds to the insult?

If so, how long has this policy been in place? And where is the rule or announcement establishing such a policy?

It’s a catch-22, if you don’t respond and report, but no action is taken, then the next time why bother reporting? But then you will be infracted for insults if you respond, all the while the other party continues business as usual.

If you are insulted and fail to respond or report it, that doesn’t mean the insult went unreported.

What is with all this incessant whining about the moderation of the forum?

E.....is all butt hurt because he was chastised for derailing a thread in the Pub. Despite no action I was going with that he wanted to get some love, affection, and attention from Safety.....after $#@!ing about Moderation, Mods and those on the Right.

That is true. But my thoughts are that if the mod is alerted, and goes to the thread, and reads enough to decide if they should infract or not, they would be able to see enough to charge both parties. The mods can issue infractions on their own if they see something. I am not saying they should get all crazy with it, but sometimes it is warranted.

In all fairness. I don't feel the mods have been unfair with me in particular. Only on one or two occasions but that is no big deal. They put up with my sh*t too. My complaints are what I see happen to other members. I have never reported to a mod before. I choose to confront the person doing the wrong personally. But it is not wrong to report, and people should if they are wronged. I just choose not to.
