    How many Americans have served?

I was looking for something specific. This was also in the list.

Call your state legislators and insist they approve the Article V convention of States to propose amendments.

I pledge allegiance to the Constitution as written and understood by this nation's founders, and to the Republic it created, an indivisible union of sovereign States, with liberty and justice for all.

Less and less Americans have any connection to the military.

Constitutionally, it is not required of citizens to serve in the military. I don't believe they should unless the country is in danger.

It is, however, incumbent upon citizens to be vigilant and prepared for defense of the country. That's not the same as serving in the military, however.

I never served and I regret that. Not that I regret serving my country, I wish I would have spent a few years serving for the experience, to build character. I think I had character all throughout my life but I was undisciplined for a lot of my earlier life. I think that serving as an experience would have done a lot for my mindset that never came to develop for me until much later in life.

My suggestion to kids now, don't do it. Throughout my life there's been wars and military actions and needless deaths that I could never support. It's not that way much lately but things cycle around. Why would anyone offer their life up so we can "protect our interests" like some angry old men here suggest.

Would you give your life so some derp can drive an SUV cheaper or play their video games or for some stupid wealthy old rich guy keeps his stock portfolio at par?

No, I wouldn't and I wouldn't want my children to do that.

If we were under real threat of being occupied or overthrown yeah, and old (older lol) guy like me, I'd take up arms and with bad knee and all I would do what I could knowing I might be in a sort of minority but that's never going to happen. Not with nukes so that point is moot.

My advice to kids - stay out of the military, get an education and a skill and take advantage of what semblance of a "free" nation we have now. Live for yourself, there's no one more worth living for.

If I could do it again, I think I might be a welder or maybe a blacksmith or blade-smith. I love cutlery.

I think it's the Swiss who require civilians to keep arms in their homes for defense of country.

I think something should be done to ingrain in people that they are Americans and their a sense of country and nation is important. We seem to have lost the taste for it, but Obama totally underscored the need, unintentionally, of course, as he was the negative that brought light to positivity -- anti-Obama nationalism and patriots. If you can say he ever did anything worth a $#@!, it would be to appreciation of that fact by his 8 years of effort at dissolving the US.

Unbelievable, but there it is, and there he still is, living behind a wall in his own prison, a sort of bizarre anti-hero wanna be who should be in jail

Schooling Obama. Our diversity is not our strength, as this rat preaches. He should be vilified for that bull$#@!, imprisoned and probably hung.

Our diversity is due to our strength, you goddamn $#@!, not the other way around.

Obviously not but what then could possibly help ingrain this sense of being an American?
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.
