You are probably wrong. Every department I have ever had dealings with required one of any officer involved in a motor vehicle accident as SOP.

I know for certain no intent to harm a child was involved. Everything else will be paperwork and agreements with the DA. RIP little darling girl. I am sorry.

That is not the sort of community outreach the department was going for.

A Columbia police officer struck and killed a 4-year-old girl Friday at Battle High School when the officer drove her Chevrolet Tahoe SUV onto a sidewalk on an assignment to observe students departing school, the Missouri State Highway Patrol stated in an accident report filed online.
Andria L. Heese, 27, was driving in the school bus loading area at Battle and drove off the left side of the road onto the sidewalk, striking Gabriella Curry, who was walking on the sidewalk at the time.
Heese, a five-year veteran of the department, is assigned to the Community Outreach Unit. She was placed on administrative leave while the patrol investigates.

But did she fear for her life?

Cop or not, I don't really like that fact that people acting dumb as $#@!, or "careless" if you will, get a free pass for killing someone because they "didn't mean it." Actions need to have consequences. That 4 year old isn't coming back. A slap on the wrist isn't nearly severe enough. There is a difference between a genuine accident and flat out negligence.
