You are right, I was never a cat person until my wife and kids "MADE" me bring a kitten home for one Christmas.
That cat was spayed her name was Angel and she was with us 16 yrs, she was never an outdoor cat and she never was allowed to hunt.

If you allow your cat to come and go outslde no matter how much food you feed it, its going to kill squirells and birds and any other small animal it can get its paws on, its instinct and you can only control it by not allowing them outside., it cannot be trained out of them.

Cats are killers, they will kill to kill even when they arent hungry, its like playing to them

I've had a few cats over the years. I wanted one when when I was a kid, and I picked up a free orange tabby from a farm. Loved him, he was a sweetie. What I did not like was the ODOR. Anyway, he was sweet. That's neither here nor there..

The other cats were for my kids or people abandoned them on our property. (jerks) Couldn't stop them from killing bats and hummingbirds unless I made them housecats, and I didn't want to do that. I can't stand to have cats in the house.

Either that or they have a ton of "crazy cat ladies" over there. I have heard the complaints about the birds cats kill, which is as you say natural. Cats maintain more of their natural hunting instinct than dogs or maybe it's that we raise dogs in a non pack manner .
Anyway I still see lots of birds so I'm not concerned.

That estimate sounds a bit high considering Britain's population is about 63 million. Also, a few years ago I read that the country was being overrun by foxes, so I wonder how that has worked out for the cats.

In rural America coydogs and Coyotes can keep feral cat populations under control . Fox vs. cat? Not sure, but that might be a good one to watch. Cats are quicker and have more weapons but foxes can well out fox a lot of critters.

Well, yeah. Cats make you crazy. In 2011, around 20% of the UK population were infected by toxoplasma gondii, a parasite only known to reproduce sexually in the cat family.

No, No. It's a very modern and current method! Hardly anyone thought of putting a bell on a cat before modern times.
