Should You Tip Your Flight Attendant? One Airline Is Encouraging It

Should You Tip Your Flight Attendant? One Airline Is Encouraging It

I think this is a good idea with the caveat that the flight attendants understand that a tip is based off their performance and how well they treat you.

They take your order, serve up food and drinks, and come back to clean up. But should you tip your flight attendant? Frontier Airlines is encouraging it.

Flight attendants on the Denver-based airline began accepting individual tips on Jan. 1, according to the Chicago Tribune. Frontier made tipping an option three years ago but, until this year, flight attendants were required to pool tips.

“We appreciate the great work of our flight attendants and know that our customers do as well, so [the payment system] gives passengers the option to tip,” the Tribune quoted Frontier spokesman Jonathan Freed as stating.

Passengers who order refreshments get a prompt from Frontier’s payment system that they have the option to leave a tip.

JT Genter, of ThePoints Guy travel blog, shared a photo of the payment tablet displaying a message that reads, “Gratuities Are Appreciated!” It offers customers the options of 15 percent, 20 percent or 25 percent, “custom gratuity” and “I prefer not to leave a gratuity.”

What about the Lowe's clerk? The UPS people? Let the companies pay their own staff.

One more reason to avoid flying.

I suppose it makes sense though.

A counter argument: flight attendants have a big safety function. If they are focusing on kissing too much ass to get good tips, safety may suffer.

No, you shouldn't. You can if you want but it shouldn't be an obligation, ESPECIALLY if they have a pooling policy. I severely dislike all of these new electronic ways of what essentially amounts to your server, attendant, waitstaff, etc.. standing there with their hand out. It's basically them standing there asking if you'll be providing them with a tip today. Unsavory.

Everyone wants a tip these days!. Next thing you know, they'll have a tip jar at the TSA line.
    You are wrong about police.

If a TSA agent would escort me to the front of the line I would give that agent a tip.

It depends.. I could be all in for this if she is extra hot and easy on the eyes. I don't want some ugly woman or some dude to be my stewardess.

This was one of the reasons I didn't vote for Hillary. I am all for a female President, but she needs to be decent to look at.

Exhibit A on the opposite of that.
