Most of those throwing their hat into the ring are doing it for another role and not to become President. You have to have leverage in order to get a good position like secretary of state. If they bring votes with them they will most likely get the ideal position they are hoping for which will add more experience to their portfolio that they can use if they choose to run down the road.

Our society is so civically lazy that we have not had a one term president since George the First. We have literally become too lazy to unelect a sitting president.

We have only had 10 one term presidents in our history (11 if you count LBJ or 12 if you count William Henry Harrison who died after only a month in office). I don't know if its that we are lazy or just cautious and would rather elect the devil we know than the devil we don't.

Its more likely they will say how wonderful it is that the Democrats have so many competent contenders making it difficult to choose the best of the best. It will be obvious the Republicans don't have anyone smart enough to go up against this formidable field of political giants.
