Just say "no". -- Nancy Reagan.

Police harassment is when an officer abuses their authority by continually stopping someone, "aggressive questioning" or conducting an illegal search and seizure, illegal surveillance or holding people against their will. https://www.justanswer.com/topics-police-harassment/

There is a downside to this and that is if we cannot identify someone we cannot check them for outstanding warrants.

People that have no identification and refuse to identify themselves legitimately are the individuals that have something to hide many times and most of the time its Warrants from minor to very serious felonies. Most of the warrants for child and spousal reports are known through traffic stops and subsequent identification.

In the end the law is the law, police dont make the law they have to enforce it and follow it themselves.
@Common I hear what you are saying. Glad you had that perspective. To me the balance here is the showing of your papers kind of issue. If I was a passenger in a car. The drive FTY or something, gets stopped I would not want to identify myself. That being said I know what you mean.. Tough one but I am in the odd spot of agreeing with the Communists on the 9th! LOL

To make you rest a little easier this doesn't mean the police cant ask and we all know 90% of the people out there have no idea of their rights and will provide the ID!

That's great, but that ruling does nothing that prevents them from continuing to do it. The ruling has no teeth.

Lol lighten up I am just picking on you because you said you were an ex officer. But I look at it this way, if I am in a restaurant and cops come in to say arrest a person with a warrant, what is to stop them from saying well one person had a warrant lets check to see if any other person may have one.

Nothing prevents it. You don't have to comply.

But it's the same concept. There may be another in the restaurant that has a warrant, but do they have a right to go to each table and ask. The same as if they pull over a car for a taillight out, find out the driver has a warrant for say late child support, do they then have a right to request all in the car to identify themselves just in case they may have one too. Does everyone loose their rights for one person. Yea I understand in some situations they find someone they have been looking for but it still doesn't make it right. Hell is a road paved with good intentions, the police may have good intentions but without probable cause they have no right to do this.
