How would the wildcard playoff structure work?
It would work the same way it did in the past when there was only one wild card per conference.

Now I'm done with you because you want to troll a thread and be a dink just because I proved you wrong.

    Yeah, whatever.

Grow a set for christ's sake.

The NFL wants more games, it's great revenue for them, why would they want to eliminate playoff games?
    my junk is ugly

My suggestion would be to only have one wild card team per conference and only the team in each conference with the best regular season record gets a bye and a guarantee of home field advantage.

Expanding the playoffs to eight teams in each conference would make it possible that a team with a losing record making the playoffs would be common. . I remember the furor a few years ago when a team won their division with a 7-9 record.

I think the current playoff structure in the NFL is fine where it's at. And yeah, a bye week is huge. It sets up regular season drama a lot more.
I see your point. But from a business point of view it would keep mpre teams and fans engaged and give wildcard teams a better shot.
If things keep up like this we might as well only have 4 teams in the playoffs in each conference

Not a bad idea. But again from a business point of view adding teams to the playoffs is much more productive than taking them away. Plus the example you gave was a division winner ( I wasn't aware that had happened) and they would be in the playoffs regardless

I'm not looking at it from a revenue generating point of view. From a business point of view it might also make sense. Leave the audience wanting more. Don't over do it.

The example I used was a division winner and I don't recall that ever happening before. That means it is extremely rare. If the playoffs were expanded to include half the teams in the NFL, a team with a losing record in the playoffs would not be unusual.

The playoffs have essentially been a joke so far. The bye teams are the only ones left. If they had to play a 7-9 team in week one they'd still win but they wouldn't get the extra rest, home field and the lowest seed to play.

Back in the day when there was just one wild card team per conference there were just three divisions. The only way to eliminate a bye week is the 4 division winners of conf. only or expand the playoffs to 8 per conf. Bad idea IMO. If you went to a 16 team playoff you probably eliminate a sub 500 team by having 8 division winners and 8 at large teams with the best records regardless of conf, and seed the teams 1 - 16.
It's ok if you disagree with me. I can't force you to be right.
