Cognitive Behavioral Therapy classifies emotional reasoning as a cognitive distortion. How many people do you know that can give you five empirical reasons for holding a particular opinion? 1 out of 10 maybe? How many people have the intellectual integrity to research both sides of a particular issue? 1 in 20? or 50 perhaps?
Our vapid popular culture tells us to trust our feelings, over and above everything else. You see this propaganda of dysfunctional thinking almost everywhere. And yet, feelings can be so utterly and completely and sometimes disastrously wrong. How often does it feel good to do the wrong thing and feel difficult to do the right? The value of feelings must be gauged against a broader moral framework that also embraces empirical fact, regardless the issue.
But the press knows very well that most people have no intellectual integrity, and don't bother to research both sides of an issue. If they can stir the feelings of the mindless masses with some maudlin emotional appeal, that's all that's necessary to affect a movement of the herd.

"An army, great in space, may offer opposition in a brief span of time.
One man, brief in space, must spread his opposition
across a period of many years if he is
to have a chance of succeeding"

By taking a stand against illegal immigration, one is showing compassion for the nation's native born citizens and those who come here legally looking for a better life.

Those who come here legally and show respect for our laws should be given the top priority.
