That is why we need to reach to the moon, Mars, and beyond. We are not victims.

How much new technology and how many years do you think would be needed before we could effectively colonize anything in the solar system? I'm not talking about a research station or a new home for politicians, dignitaries and the super rich.
But rather to actually be able to form self sustaining colonies on the moon or Mars that could support millions?
My guess is that taraforming would take centuries or at the very least a couple. And the stars where an earth like planet no longer exist will probably take even longer. So we'd be looking at indoor environments to live, grow food, work, ... everything. A hundred years maybe?

It will take probably a century to colonize much of the solar system from the time we make a successful moon colony, although with artificial habitats. Taraforming will take many many centuries. Once we get to the moon it will go very fast after that.

The technology will come as we try to do. If we try to do nothing, then nothing will happen.

Fleas aren't victims either, but their host can only tolerate so many. The rich might escape within the solar system but how long will it be before we could say teraform a planet? Until then the cost of large colonies would be impractical and the stars are centuries away.

Good thing you are a localist and won't get in the way of thinkers who will expand humans to the stars. Worry about your 25 miles radius, while humans go to the moon, Mars, and beyond.

Bull! They will be trapped like rats. How many shelters have you seen with eight or more feet of vent? How long would it last before being choked out by more ash. How would they be able to ever get out with potentially 8 feet of ash and debris on their hatch? Etc. Etc....If it blows, we go!!
