Released Video Shows A-10 Warthog Striking a Taliban Vehicle with Devastating Force

This is from last year, but I just ran across it.

On January 24, 2018, the U.S. Air Force Central Command Public Affairs Office released a video of an A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft decimating a Taliban insurgent vehicle after it had attacked local Afghans with a DShK 12.7 mm heavy machine gun.

It was met by the Warthog's GAU-8 Avenger 30mm, seven-barrel Gatling gun--part of a weapons system that destroyed some 900 Iraqi tanks during the Gulf War in the early 90s.
    Ha- bye bye Mr. Taliban.

    Totality

Yah, I don't know that you can decimate a single vehicle. (The original meaning was an old Roman military punishment, every 10th man of an offending unit was selected @ random & punished.) The vehicle in the clip looked totally destroyed, although I'm not sure the 2nd pass did much more additional damage. The first pass looked to kill everyone in the truck, & wrecked the truck permanently.

The extended meaning of decimate seems to be to destroy the majority of a formation - which still doesn't accurately describe what happened to the crew & the truck itself. I would count it as total destruction.

Silly rabbit. The Taliban don't have formations...

Anyhoo the discussion behind discontinuing the A-10 should be ceased immediately. There is no other aircraft in existence that provides close ground support like the A-10.
I find your lack of faith...disturbing...

I benefited from A-10 support at danger close. Love those pilots.

Typical government wastefulness. Scrap a perfectly good platform, to come up with something "new and improved" for billions and billions and billions of dollars.
