Imagine no electricity in North America. How would most Americans deal with that, and the consequences of being thrust into a pre-industrial age? Diabetes? How long does insulin last once the refrigerator goes out? Any medical condition that requires electricity- respirators, etc. Food. Perishable food won't last long. Can goods will last a while, but you won't find any at the super market after a week or so. What wasn't sold out would have been looted by that time. No more deliveries if trucks don't work and gas pumps don't pump. Gangs taking advantage over the lack of law enforcement. Inability for the military to coordinate effectively. Everything that we know now will be vastly different.
The Congressional EMP Commission has periodically made reports to Congress. At the link you will find links to their various reports if you are interested.
