Regarding Russia's long term goals , you really need to discern between Russia and USSR........the US likes to think they were responsible for the breakup of the Soviet Union , but they really had no say in it . If you read up on the last 1000 years of Russian history you will better understand what has created modern day Russia. Russia has never invaded another country or shown aggression towards another country without provocation ........their long term goals are plainly documented for anyone to see . Putin and his government are what's presently holding the world together , during an unprecedented period of American unending geopolitical nonsense and desperation.
I agree with much of that. Except the end of the USSR part. The US decisively won the Cold War and caused the fall of the Soviets.

Bollocks !.......the cold war was totally created by US interests (the start of the domination of US politics by the military/industrial sector. When WW1 started , Russia was already in a state of revolution , in effect it was a civil war with Stalin and the Bolsheviks . Americas cold war , was more an annoyance to Russia , which was in turmoil within it's own borders . The Cold War period was also a period of de-Stalinization for Russia , right up to the Gorbachev period and continued under Yeltsen and Putin. The Soviet union was not economically sustainable and would have broken up regardless of America's cold war.

The Soviet Union collapsed when it did because of the Reagan, Thatcher, Pope alliance. Of course over time it would have failed on its own, because communism is stupid.

Russia today is not communist . I also do not regard China as communist or Cuba for that matter. Nth Korea would be the only country left that would qualify as communist , and by all indications , that is about to change because of their vastly improved diplomatic relations with South Korea , and a willingness to open up to the world again and participate . It's a hard and bitter pill for the global neocons to swallow , but that's how it is . They still seem desperate to use Russia as a convenient enemy . Bring on the new James Bond movie !

One of the things I like about you, Peter, is that you are prepared to accept things, and give credit where it is due. Also, you often post really interesting facts - good on yer!

Here is an article from the American Conservative that debunks the narrative that Russia is an existential treat to the West.

Read the entire article at the link.

    Another boggieman down.
