It's about associating brands in people's minds with being one of the good guys. Dawn does it by being associated with saving wildlife from oil spills. Nike does it by associating themselves with healthy exercise or some other cause. The difference in quality between many products is not sufficiently great that there is much brand loyalty especially when you are basically selling bread and butter lines.
In quoting my post, you affirm and agree that you have not been goaded, provoked, emotionally manipulated or otherwise coerced into responding.

I get that, what I don't get is the subliminal impact.

I think our election system operates the same way. People don't care about quality and value in their candidates, they just have to be highly recognizable.

You probably are not the guy who is being bombarded by media 24/7. It's primarily young people being targeted with these campaigns.

No, I'm not. I block it, or ignore it when it persists beyond my ability to block it.

I think that's a significant deficiency with people in general and with today's younger generation. People are being manipulated, or letting themselves be manipulated is the better way to put it.

    Manipulation.

The real manipulation is that it's about all men. I agree with @Common, most of us were raised gentlemen but identity politics being what it is we are all oppressors!

Nike associates themselves with anti-American kneelers.
Gilette associates itself with liberal beta males and masculine females.

I don't know. Is that for constipation? You always seem constipated. Is that your go-to brand?

I am proud of the fact that a record number of men are standing up to slander of their gender.

The ad generated considerably more protest then lots of similar stuff in the past.
