I have a trusting nature, apparently. I was watching a movie called "Midnight Cowboy" but never saw a watch or clock during the entire movie. Thank God there were only one or two cowboys in that movie . Had it been " Midnight Bonanza" or "Midnight Gunsmoke" I would have been forever trying to figure out which "cowboy " lad they were referring to

I watched 3:10 to Yuma earlier tonight for the first time. Good movie. Russell Crowe mustve made this movie before the movie in which he was a boxer. I know this because his face wasnt caved in.

I've been watching some Randolph Scott films these past few days. Two from the '30s do not hold up well; everything about them, in terms of film making, is primitive. To the Last Man, from 1933, is especially awful in that respect - surprising because its director, Henry Hathaway, went on to direct, decades later, such movies as True Grit, Nevada Smith and a good portion of How the West Was Won. Noah Beery Sr. and Jack LaRue in full over-the-top ham actor mode as the villains, and a very early appearance by a five-year-old Shirley Temple - possibly her first in a feature-length film - make it worth a look, but don't expect much beyond that.

The second '30s film, The Fighting Westerner (aka Rocky Mountain Mystery) is somewhat more watchable, but not by much. Scott's acting is just okay in both movies, with very little to work with in the way of dialogue or a believable story.

Rage at Dawn, 1955, is considerably better and worth a watch, but the real jewel is Abilene Town from 1946. Randolph Scott at the height of his steely-eyed lawman persona, with a quick gun and an amused smile ever ready. Also a pretty good story: cattlemen vs. settlers (a young Lloyd Bridges among the latter), with the town of Abilene caught in the middle, a lazy, conniving county Sheriff (played mostly for laughs, but given a pitch-perfect authenticity by Edgar Buchanan), and two smoking hot competing love interests for Scott in Rhonda Fleming and Ann Dvorak. Edwin L. Marin went on to direct a number of other Randolph Scott features that I'm going to have to check out.

How many shots does he fire in the intro to the Rifleman?
    Ever try to count them?

No, it wasn't. He used a Winchester 92 chambered for .44-40. That particular rifle had a capacity of 15 rounds.

To me one of the most authentic western movies was Cowboys and Aliens. It starred James Bond and Han Solo

You are correct about the 15 round capacity.
Actually he shot 12 times, the 13th was dubbed in to coordinate with the music.

Also the 1892 Winchester was not yet invented as the show was dated in the 1880's.

    Fun trivia stuff.

I didn't even think about the time frame of the show.

    Good catch.
