I have realized that I do know one person (personally) being affected by the shutdown. Unfortunately it is my niece. She got the opportunity to teach a graduate level course (for her graduate degree credits) at a school (not sure if college or university) in Maine. The unfortunate part is the funding for the course was from NASA, no funding, no class. I just told her to be proud that she was offered the position in the first place. Hopefully she gets another chance, if, and when things settle down.

Sorry to hear that. Certainly some people are affected, but at a general level, there seems to be little long-term effect, at least no data to show it.

Irreparable damage in five weeks? I'm supposed to believe that? If that were true the earth would be flat. Maybe you and you sucky sidekick believe that one too.

Fortunately, whether you believe a fact to be true or not is irrelevant. The fact remains true.
