The difference is the amount of government interference.
Call your state legislators and insist they approve the Article V convention of States to propose amendments.

Services are becoming increasingly technical and sophisticated. This is reflected in the level of education required and that in turn leads to an increase in wages and cost of having the services performed. An auto mechanic for example is no longer Cousin Wilber with a whacking hammer and a three prong screw driver. Now, all that is electronic and determining what is wrong takes more time and knowledge than actually replacing the part. The upside of all this is that a high mileage car is now over 150,000 miles, not over 45,000 miles. So while the cost of repairs increases, the cost of replacing decreases.

I would say the cost of child care has increased because of government regulation. Again, Granny Jones could watch 4 or 5 little tykes for butter and egg money. Now, because of the educational requirements, the space requirements and almost having to have a nurse on staff in case little Susie scraps her knee only well heeled facilities can afford to stay in business.

BTW, I put this squarely on the head of those well heeled facilities who lobbied for "safety and professional" regulations in order to get rid of the Granny Jones and any related competition.
