$#@! of a year for wildlife

It being Groundhog's Day reminded me what a terrible winter this is for the critters in my area. The long lasting deep snow cover along with such frequent below zero temps will take it's toll on the deer heard for sure.
It probably won't knock down the damned Coyotes though, because of the dead animals they will have to scavenge on.
Anyone else having that kind of winter?

This is so true. I am always thinking of the wildlife when the weather becomes extreeme. I see the birds resting on ice covered branches. I know that they feel cold just like you and me. https://www.foxnews.com/science/can-...g-temperatures I used to have this sparrow. She was a rescue and she refused to leave once ready. She stayed with us for her whole life. She always loved to be warm. In the winter when the heater was on, she would hop over to the heater and lay down on the warm tile where the air was blowing out. She loved to be warm. She would even lay in a blanket and cover herself with her little beak pulling the sheet around her body. It was pretty amazing.

A lot of animals lose their lives when it is cold like this. It is really sad. Hopefully the cold lets up. It is not cold like that where I am, but I know that it is elsewhere. I remember mass cows were dying in the cold some years ago. https://rapidcityjournal.com/news/te...e04e10886.html

It seems that all extreme weather conditions kill the animals. http://www.thebigwobble.org/2016/06/...ar-due-to.html
We are all brothers and sisters in humanity. We are all made from the same dust of stars. We cannot be separated because all life is interconnected.

We have gotten as low as around ~10F. Not sure if wild animals die off at those temps.

Duration of the cold is a factor too. Here the snow pack is a big issue because it makes it so hard for deer to move and requires more energy. But I imagine the animals in each region are acclimitized a little differently so Virginia, which seems to have a lot of deer, may lose some in conditions that would not affect our deer. We have fewer deer though, especially in the Adirondacks away from the farms.
