That was exactly what I was going to say, people are using race as a factor, but how does that hold up to scrutiny when Clarance Thomas is mentioned....I guess that shows who is “really” fixated on race...
Lifetime appointment vs four year term....hmmmm, very big difference.
“Conscientiously believing that the proper condition of the negro is slavery, or a complete subjection to the white man, and entertaining the belief that the day is not distant when the old Union will be restored with slavery nationally declared to be the proper condition of all of African descent, and in view of the future harmony and progress of all the States of America, I have been induced to issue this address, so that there may be no misunderstanding in the future”

I'm sorry, I'm not buying it. They are the same alleged offenses but there's no outrage because one is only the #2 of a State whereas the other is 1/9th of the SCOTUS? That seems to be an unprincipled rationale there. Again, I'm not advocating for either to be taken to the woodshed, I'm just curious as to the disparate treatment.

I’m not asking you to buy it, because rational thinking would dictate that a #2 position in a state government /=/ a life long appointment to a position in the judiciary which governs the entire country. Not withstanding the point that the individual also holds positions in adverse to a particular “settled law”.
