If there was no brainwashing , there would be no need for debreifing . The mental health statistics over the last 20 years is nothing short of alarming . Soldiers should defend their country and protect their populations , not travel abroad to slaughter people senselessly in the name of greed.

Interesting that the author focuses on ideology- I see a return to great power politics of the pre-WWI era.

Their leaders have failed them miserably. They have failed the soldier far more even than they have failed the nation as a whole.

None of those have anything to do with brainwashing troops.

Where did you serve? Were you brainwashed?

I have served in many units to include the 101st, 2nd Infantry (2 times), 82nd Airborne, 10th Mountain, and more. No brainwashing in those units.

[QUOTE=Peter1469;2537209]None of those have anything to do with brainwashing troops. Where did you serve? Were you brainwashed? I never said that I served...... are you saying that it's a prerequisite to having an opinion and believing in a better global future than America's endless war games ? .....I'm 65 yo so I was a few years too young for conscription.....Back then , I would have refused to go anyway , as I vividly remember . To me Vietnam was a fake war against a communist threat that didn't exist. (I mean no disrespect to anyone who served there ) . I have many friends who did , some made it home , some didn't . Those who made it home are still dealing with it as best they can. Many now live in Asian countries.

I agree. One interesting thing that comes up regarding ideology is the theory we are trying to cram the old ideologies of the 20th and 19th centuries to fit the 21st century and that all are faltering. Great power politics are more normal state of human affairs than are ideological struggles.

BTW I put a plug in for Geopolitical Futures web site. It is only site I pay for. Reading George Friedmans stuff has changed my perspective on a number of topics. He takes the long view and constantly warns against making too much of political personalities on the stage at any point in time. His over arching theme is great nations will act in their interests and who is President or Prime Minister etc.. only has marginal effect in .the long run

I pay for Strafor, not Geopolitical futures. Friedman left Strator to create GF.
