I don't particularly care about your schedule. I went to the gym and got a haircut.
Your statement was totally false and the reason has already be provided by another member above. In the US, the local sheriff is the enforcer of the Constitution at the local level. That is why they are elected. So Citizens can ensure they have a voice when it comes to the Government and laws that may run afoul of the Constitution. So when your Statist ilk pass unconstitutional laws, a sheriff who takes his oath seriously steps in and shuts you down fast.

So, then such a sheriff couldn't give me a speeding ticket because it's my constitutional right to go a mile a minute.
AND - from the OP article; a Tweet from the governor:So, my point is proven....That’s not how laws work, of course, and it’s not how oaths of office work either. But let’s move past that. #SB8
Your's still isn't, and other -opinions - cant cut it either.

No, they can't be "fired". A Sheriff in the State of New Mexico may only be removed from office by judicial action. I explained that once already. They don't work for the Governor. She can't fire them. The County Commission can't fire them.
Now, who is it in this thread who doesn't know what he is talking about? Look in a mirror and introduce yourself.
