It’s on him. This is an Internet forum. Nothing more or less. I really don’t consider the people on the internet to be friends or even acquaintances. How they feel is of no consequence to me. I post on here for entertainment and I am entertained.

Well, you had a Newfie so I'm going to make a similar suggestion -- a Saint. I love my Saints - this is an older photo, 4 of the 8 you see here passed of old age, so we just have 4 left, but they are sweethearts. And, healthy as horses. They say a Saint has a 6-9 year lifespan, but ours tend to live 9-13 years on average.

Like your Newfie, a Saint is loving, not too much high-energy, loud snores, slobbery (but totally worth it) and loyal, well, kind of loyal -- I once came home to find two of my Saints sitting on a blanket with two women who were having a picnic on our land. Turns out they were tax appraisers and thought it was a pretty place to stop for their picnic lunch. So, not completely loyal, but close.

Per your logic we shouldn’t allow individuals with dwarfism to breed because of the genetic flaws that may result. After all dogs = humans according to your logic.

    Dont derail my thread.
Peter is correct. Shelter dogs over the age of about 1 1/2-2 know the score and they're on the losing end, and if you adopt one, they seem to appreciate it much more than a purebred from a litter, and they are a lot less money, generally healthier if they are at least part mix. There's a lot to be said for them. Plus if you get a purebred from a breeder, that's one more shelter dog that's gonna die that deserves better.

Any dog over the age of 2 is a great choice, I think. All that puppy stuff is behind them and they are more attentive and obedient.

Greyhounds are reputed to be very loving, mellow dogs. People that own them seem to love them.

I had a Pyr mix (mostly Pyr and I don't know what else) for 16 years and he was a young adult when I got him from the shelter. No puppy left in him. Very nice, obedient, intelligent, mellow dog unless he was around another dog or the UPS man. Just loved to pal around in the park or watch TV. Very intelligent but not a type of dog to learn tricks because he couldn't care less.
