Don't be a snark. Socialism sucks. It is the reason for the thread. Socialism always sounds good, the problem is there is zero evidence of it working anywhere. Some time it spreads upon a society by quick violent revolution, other time is spreads its filthy paws gradually. The end result is always the same.

The confusion is this. Socialism as invented by Henri de Saint-Simon and others was just a way to organize society around the social ownership of the means of production. Marx and Lenin viewed this as too utopian, too libertarian to their authoritarianism, something the people would never achieve, and drew up a manifesto in which the dictatorship of the proletariat by the vanguard was called socialism, a step toward the implementation of communism.

When Napoleon heard of the French Revolution he asked why had not the artillery fired upon the mob. He was told that the French monarch does not fire on his citizens. Napoleon said had he, he would still have his head.

French Revolution most certainly was a socialist movement. They didn't call it that but all the elements are there. The class warfare (compare) this to the American Revolution. The denouncing and cleansing of society. The imperative for political purity in the pursuit of Equality, Liberty and Fraternity...

Equal outcomes were demanded. In the end those outcomes were enforced at the Guillotine!
