You assume there's only one definition of Socialism. For you, things have to be black or white, there's simply no room for grey. One brand of Socialism is the redistribution of wealth. Both Medicare & Social Security survive by that process. That form also doesn't control what you do, but they do control certain key elements. Utilities and the like. Most other businesses are left on their own. It's pretty much that way here. Both Medicare & SS function more like "life estates". You croak, both are gone. Both are great programs, not without glitches. Still, they remain immensely popular and are a life line, however slim, for a huge percentage of the population.

"Socialism is the redistribution of wealth" is something I've never heard of. Certainly, socialists advocate redistribution. Take Robert Reich who wrote The Answer Isn’t Socialism; It’s Capitalism that Better Spreads the Benefits of the Productivity Revolution. But so do progressives, liberals, moderates, libertarians, and even conservatives call for redistribution of wealth.

Socialism only has one definition. It is a text book term.

Green is also green. You cannot say it is blue to try to convince people they do not like green that they like green.

When government owns the means of production and distribution then they own you. You are their slave. They own your food supply. They own your job.

People pushing to Socialism are pushing themselves and everyone else toward slavery. It is for people that are afraid of life. Weak little cowards. Wanna be children. The laziest people in society.

Yes, these attempts to redefine socialism are tiresome.

I did find redistribution as a simple definition of socialism in Hans-Hermann Hoppe's A Theory of Socialism and Capitalism: Economics, Politics, and Ethics, a simplification of a longer argument/explanation starting with the fundamental principle of capitalism being private property whereby in a pure system all exchange of goods and services is voluntary, and socialism is the opposite, public property and forced exchange. Redistribution is a form of socialization that converts some private property into public, voluntary exchange into forced.
