I love colder weather, the dark skies, the rain hitting the windows, the wind, even.... I just couldn't handle the New Mexico winters anymore, in my area of the state, we'd get sometimes in excess of 2-3 feet at one time.... I remember the time our barn roof collapsed from heavy snow...horses weren't in there.
What part of southern Arizona? I was born in Tucson, and still have a lot of relatives there.

I don't mind loud and raucous, I just don't want a tornado to level my house, or the power knocked out for days.

I'm surrounded by woods, so high winds mean downed trees, and power outages.

A couple of weeks ago, we had a big wind storm and a big tree knocked out the power lines, and trapped us on our road. Once we figured out the line laying in the road was dead, and the gravel road wasn't electrified, me and some neighbors had the tree cut up and moved in short order. My wife and I still used it as an excuse to stay home from work, so I guess it wasn't too bad, lol. We still were without power for 24 hours though.

Snow storms are wonderful, when you dont have to go anywhere.

A few years ago an ice storm knocked the power out for 7 days. I thought I was going to die

Lol, yep. It's okay for a day or two, kinda like camping. But it gets old reeeeeeel quick.

When the remnants of Sandy came through here, we lost power for 10 days.

I'm looking into getting a Power Transfer Switch, and a bigger backup generator right now. Also in the process of moving the wood line further back away from the house, but it's a LOT of work. Just picked up a 4" WoodMax chipper, and put it through its paces last weekend, so that should speed things up.

It was a very surreal week. The wife and I piled under every blanket in the house. With no TV we talked and talked. I think both of us discussed our lives from birth until the present. The next week she passed away unexpectedly. It was a very surreal time in my life. To this day I feel like that time period wasn't real , just a very bad dream.
