    Manafort Indicted Again

New York prosecutors Wednesday announced criminal charges against President Donald Trump’s former campaign chief, Paul Manafort, only minutes after his sentencing in a federal case.
The indictment, unveiled by Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance, charges Manafort with 16 counts related to mortgage fraud, conspiracy and falsifying business records.
“No one is beyond the law in New York,” Vance said in a statement. Manafort’s alleged actions “strike at the heart of New York’s sovereign interests, including the integrity of our residential mortgage market,” Vance added.

Lol at no one is above the law in New York. In any case, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I have no issue with Manafort being tried for his crimes, the shame is that it's only happening because they're going after Trump. This would have been left alone otherwise.

Everyone is now looking for their pound of flesh.

Some of these charges were looked at years ago and it was determined that there wasn’t sufficient evidence to prosecute.

While Manafort obviously broke the law, it’s equally obvious that the only reason they are so zealous in persuing him is his association with Trump and the fact that he’s not giving them anything to support the collusion meme.

They can indict and convict until the cows come home. In the end I think Trump may pardon him sometime after the 2020 General election.

So why am I being informed that Trump has no pardoning power for state convictions?

Trump can only pardon federal charges.

I don't do criminal law and I didn't follow the Manafort thing. Were any of these charges lesser included offenses in the federal charges so as to trigger double jeopardy - or are they totally unrelated?

I don't think it really matters. If anything, the state will use semantics to justify their charges and that will be that.

It should matter where the constitution is involved.
