The storied U. Conn Men's Basketball coach has beaten cancer and showed up practice 11 days after surgery in the past. He's a winner and a tough guy . He has now blessed a Division three school with his talents for money he once would of likely made in a couple of weeks.
But there is another side to his legacy. A few years back when he was the Husky's coach he was the highest paid state in employee in the state while the school's athletic program succeeded on the court but not on the balance sheet.
His now famous quote was " not a penny back". That legacy? U Conn's sports program ( A state school) now operates on a 40 million dollar deficit.
So much for the excuse that college sports pays the bills.

Question? Should state school athletic programs be held more accountable for spending?
