No, you are incorrect. For every dollar that the US has spent defending Europe, that was a dollar that Europe didn't have to spend to defend itself. You don't think that's a benefit? Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy, were lifted out of the debris of war by us Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of those countries paid even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States. In fact, in World War 2, your beloved Soviet Union received about 7,000 fighter aircraft and more than 4,000 tanks via Lend-Lease from the United States. The Soviet Union also got 430,000 trucks (Studebaker, 2.5 tons), 340,000 field telephones and 800,000 miles of telephone cables. About 5,000 tanks, 7,000 aircraft and over 200,000 tons of other war materials were lost at sea in the holds of ships trying to reach Soviet ports in the far north of Russia, near the Arctic Circle. More tanks and aircraft were lost near the Arctic Circle than in any single tank or air battle in WW2 or in the history of warfare.
The Marshall Plan .. the Truman Policy .. all pumped billions upon billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Americans have helped control floods on the Nile, the amazon, the Ganges and the Niger. When distant cities are hit by earthquakes, tsunami's it is the Americans that hurry in to help. So far this spring, several American communities have been flattened by tornadoes. Nobody has helped.
