Why Can't Captain Marvel Be Gay?

Id bet other than gays there isnt anyone else clammoring for more gay scenes in movies.
I personally have no desire to see and especially to pay to see gayness.

At the same time, the proliferation of gay characters - not simply played for laughs - in mainstream t.v. dramas and commercials seems to grow exponentially. The superhero shows on the WB feature several same-sex couples and at least one transgender woman as central characters. Same-sex marriages pop up on programs like Law & Order: SVU and the various NCIS spin-offs quite frequently. On virtually every commercial that features several couples, there will be one same-sex couple represented. Maybe those shows, and the companies who sponsor them, or the companies that produce those commercials, get flack from anti-gay activists, but I don't hear about it. Even twenty years ago, a same-sex couple on a prime time t.v. program or commercial would have resulted in all manner of protests and boycotts. (Wait, I just recalled that some folks had a problem with a certain Cheerios commercial recently, so I guess some of that sort of thing still occurs.)

We live in a time when The Ellen Degeneres Show is the highest-rated daytime talk show on TV and The Rachel Maddow Show is the second highest-rated news show in the U.S. Clearly large sections of the population are over the fact that lesbians exist. I don't think that major filmmakers today would pay quite the same price at the box office for including openly lesbian characters here and there that they might have 10, 15, or 20 years ago.

I think that this is the real issue - if women in general, are underrepresented - often cast as wives and GF's or side characters in the blockbuster movies, then you are unlikely to find the kind of character development that would explore their private lives. If you look at the superhero comic book franchise movies, they rarely even explore the private lives of the superheroes themselves, particularly in the ensemble movies unless it's relevant to some problem with the superhero character. Let's face it, these movies are directed primarily at young males who at the best of times are not particularly interested in relationship plots. They simply want to see Action/Adventure.

Well like I've pointed out a couple times earlier on this thread, gay boys and men actually have several times the volume of media representation that lesbian girls and women do overall. That's because they're male. I mean I can even name films that narratively center gay men and are all about their intimate relationship to one-another that have won Best Picture at the Academy Awards before (like 2016's Moonlight)!

Sexism still applies even inside the "$#@!" community (as we're supposed to call it today) and to our varying levels and forms of representation in the media. Women are less visible whether straight or gay. The only exception is pornography and other purely sexual material because women. That's what we're for, right?

at those who are fervently supporting Polly's position, do the usual. Make your own movie, produce and direct it. Put together the capital it needs. Otherwise, your agreements are pretty much worthless.
Then watch the reviews and count your cash. See if you can shove this on everyone else.

If gay men get more attention via hollywood etc its because gay men are less acceptable than lesbians and they are trying to force them on everyone
