I mean the subtext is very transparent. They're raising a child together and there are no men in their lives! It's very obvious. To that end, it's also obvious that the only reason they couldn't make said relationship overt was because they feared that doing so would cost them viewership, and therefore money. That's what I was griping about in the OP: those kinds of decisions that major filmmakers often make to compromise their vision for a movie they're making for the sake of money.
Jesus, why do you think they make movies. It isn't a charity.

One would hope that movies are made for creative/artistic expression, ideally. I mean wouldn't you agree with that?

I have always felt that art and commerce are logically opposing forces in many ways.

No, ma'am. Movies are for profit. Why do you think they keep close tabs on box office count.
Your two characters...could you have been trying to put something between the lines that wasn't there? Maybe they were BFFs and no more. There is that possibility as well, right?

Actors =/= The characters they play nor does their fame make them authorities on political or societal constructs.

I am so tired of you pining away on how gay characters should be played by gay people. By your logic we should get Dylan Roof out of prison immediately to play the next white nationalist sociopath in an upcoming movie about that topic. We should find alien life in the universe to come to Earth to play aliens in the next Sci-Fi movie.

Ladies and gentlemen this individual is a perfect example of an American so completely and totally devoid of a sense of self that she needs to live her life through the outlets of entertainment available to her. Her reality is the movies she watches and the games she plays.

A sad reality that will continue to pervade our youth and as a result the media in which they consume. Even the so-called "NEWS" as already evidenced by pundits who are taken for journalists.

LOL. Really? You think art and commerce are opposing forces? Why then do you take exception with the largest grossing movie this year for the sake of wanting the lead female character to be a homosexual?

Your agenda is as shallow as your existence.

Well movies are obviously being made with a profit margin in mind very often and that's precisely what I'm complaining about here: that commercial considerations too often get in the way of what filmmakers (and other artists for that matter) actually want to share with us.

As to your speculation, like I said before, I find the possibility that this particular case isn't one of lesbian coding to be exceedingly unlikely. I don't know know about you, but when I see two people raising a child together, my mind says "couple", not "friends", especially if neither of them has another partner. It's therefore absurd that they are friend zoned in this movie.
