No, because the difference between a male and female brain of a human is more similar than it's not.

It still comes back to the XX and XY. If you are born a male you have a male brain unless you are mentally ill.

Again, we aren't dealing with basic biology. It's complex biology like hormonal balances in the womb, genetic chromosomal issues and other issues.

In fact, at one point in our fetal development, we were all female. Not until the 8th week of pregnancy does gender begin to be defined. In the vast majority of cases it's clearly defined. In rare cases it's not as clear.

Let me simplify this...

Its possible that when a fetus is developing that due to a variety of biological factors, a person can develop genitallia of one sex and the brain the same or similar to another. Essentially some people are born with their outward sex being in conflict with their gender that is identified by their brain.

So no, comparing that to identifying with another species or mythical creature isn't logical.

Personally, I'd get rid of prom regardless.

But, if they want a prom - I don't care who goes as a female or a male. I don't think it's much different from dressing up for a Halloween party. I don't care if anyone thinks their gender is different from the one assigned at birth -- I've got too much other stuff to worry about. For a couple of months when she was seven, my daughter pretended to be a horse. She made a little bed on the floor and called it her "stall." I let her do it and it was over before long -- then she wanted a horse. That ended up being much more expensive than when she was just pretending to be one.

But honestly, I really don't have any strong feelings either way about trans people. History tells us they're always been with us and some societies accepted them more readily than others, but I'm good with whatever someone wants to pretend to be. It's not like I'm suddenly going to think a former female grew a penis, I know what's going on -- it's just okay with me.

This whole thing was probably a setup to begin with -- someone hoping they'd make national news so they could cast aspersions on their school. The school should have just let it go and ignore it. Odds are, the girl/boy wouldn't win anyway. Did you see her/his photo?

I only care because if we accept them we will end up paying for their operations. You know that as well as I do.

But, what would you do if it was your child and you'd already been through counseling, but she still insisted? If you'd already tried everything and she persisted -- what would you do?

I'd accept my child was mentally unbalanced. It wouldn't change the fact that I love my child.
