Here I thought we honored Jefferson for the genius drafting of the Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and for completing the Louisiana Purchase ensuring the nation would not be strangled at birth by foreign powers and could grow into the Mississippi and Missouri valleys. The development of that agricultural heartland enabled the UK and eventually the US to start the industrial revolution with out the threat of starvation.

The Industrial Revolution made possible the end of slavery through mechanization of labor. This also allowed freed slaves to migrate to the factories of the north to gain middle class status.

All this done by Mr. Jefferson at the risk of loss to his life, freedom and personal fortune.
