Light aircraft carriers to give Marines more F-35s at sea

The US has toyed with the idea of building light carriers, but so far our light carriers are other sorts of ships converted into light carriers.

The U.S. Navy amphibious assault ship USS Wasp in March 2019 deployed to the Indo-Pacific region with no fewer than 10 F-35B Lightning II stealth fighters on board. An assault ship usually embarks just six F-35s or older AV-8B Harrier jump jets. In sailing with nearly twice as many vertical-landing fighters than is normal for an assault ship, Wasp is helping to prove a concept the Marine Corps seriously has been mulling over for years now -- transforming amphibious ships into light aircraft carriers.

Congress may not let them retire the Truman. Either way, light carriers are a good idea. A light carrier battle group can relieve the super-carriers from many peace time naval operations.

Yeah, Former Senator Talent said that Congress might not let them retire it. With the Artic opening up we need another carrier.

Of course we also need more planes. Then there is the issue for Space. We really should get a base built on the moon and tech for Space.
