Huge explosion in Paris

They don't know what caused it yet. Some saying gas, others saying gasoline near barbeque, others something else. But as of now there are reports of injuries and Paris is on lockdown.

In the 19th district of Paris on Saturday night, a large fire broke out in a six-story residential building. According to eyewitnesses, the fire was preceded by an explosion. Currently, the flames engulfed the entire building, the fight against fire are about 50 firefighters, apartment block EXPLODES sending huge fireball shooting across the street destroying 26 flats as firefighters battle the blazing inferno .

No. It seems a building in the north east of Paris is...or at least was.

I doubt this this was an act of terrorism. It's not an area terrorist would attack. Although it could have been an accidental detonation.

Are you referring to the annual riots of Muslims in the slums on the outskirts of Paris- running amok and burning their own neighborhoods? This doesn't look like that, but we shall see when more information comes in.

It was actually a WWII reference. General Dietrich von Choltitz was appointed Military Governor of Paris in August, 1944, during the German occupation of the city. The day after he took command, He was ordered by Hitler to destroy the city if he could not hold it against Allied forces. He was told to leave nothing but rubble for the enemy to liberate.


On 26 August, in General Staff meeting, Hitler, furious at the news that Paris was lost, turned to Generaloberst Alfred Jodl and asked... "Jodl, is Paris burning?"
