Well, the dog food companies will be glad to see the end of horse racing. If the animals can't be profitable alive, they can still be profitable to feed Fido.

It is the responsibility of the owners and trainers to ensure their investments aren't run on $#@!ty tracks. But even on the best tracks the athletes, pushing at the very tops of their performance envelopes, are going to stumble and fall and hurt themselves and others.

The risk can be minimized, never eliminated.
