There are basically four major reasons to classify documents or sections of them:

1) National Security
2) Control
3) Needle in a haystack protection
4) To hide corruption, lies etc. Like spying on Americans for example. I'm betting that a small percentage of classified information is actually justified by number 1.

I'm betting you will never know about 2, 3 and 4.
