    They're going to Starbucks, because, they are making it known, it's a safe place to shoot up... I believe the phrase 'safe space', was used by you, a ways up..... I may be wrong on that, you said...."a safe disposal site".

    The bottom line is that Starbucks' corporate head office and their lawyers are doing this to avoid liability for a situation that they cannot prevent. Employees should opt to wear stick proof gloves while dumping the trash and not depend on junkies using the sharps containers, but the company has made a good faith effort to ensure their safety.

    Starbucks scared me off years ago for many reasons. Pretending people aren’t using heroin is foolish. The drug war has been an abject failure. Unless you’re considering revenues, intended and otherwise.

    A safe disposal site is not a priority for a junkie as can be seen by all the unsafe places where they indiscriminately toss their needles, like parks, sidewalks, stairwells or basically where ever they are when they shoot up. However if there is an appropriate container they might use it. If there is an issue with the trash, they are obviously making an effort to throw the syringe away rather that throw it on the floor, so they might put it in the appropriate container.

    Thats a problem in many cities, Mayors for Political reasons and Political expediency pull the polices chain not to be aggressive. Aggressive Policing leads to movements to replace democrat politicians with other politicians. Because of that some cities are experiencing rising violent crime and crime rates in general.

    Democrats have painted themselves in a corner and NONE of them know how to get out of it now. So they are doubling down on the far left horsehit

    @gamewell45 @Dr. Who

    I hope you both realize that Starbucks installing these needle bins is a fruitless endeavor. I was around when they were installing needle receptacles everywhere. Near all homeless encampments and where known homeless congregated. They installed them on the street in front of shelters and especially in all parks and open areas. They absolutely did not work no one used them.

    What makes either of you believe that stone cold street junkies are responsible enough to go out of their way to toss a used needle in a receptacle. TRUST ME, they throw it wherever they just used it and wouldnt get up and walk 5 feet to put in the receptacle. Thats why they were ALL taken down a year later because they were never used.

    Strung out street junkies are not responsible individiuals in any way or in any form, They are owned by their addictions and products of the environment they live in, the street.

    Needle receptacles on the street are worthless, starbucks and all other business should have the right to not serve and throw out anyone that demonstrates bad behavior.

    They wont use it, needle receptacles is not a new idea Doc, when they had methadone clinics EVERYWHERE they all had needle receptacles and there were needles all over the ground around the receptacles and not in them.

    During the beginning of the HIV epidemic when they realized it was transferred by needles again they put up receptacles everywhere, they found maxi pads and tampons and condums and dog and human feces in them and no needles. Im not being crude but im demonstrating the truth here and exactly what the outcome was.

    Doc they have public bathrooms all over san franciso, public toilets that are extremely nice and kept clean there are city kiosks and private donated kiosks and San Francisco is still considered $#@! city, they $#@! all over the city and not in the kiosks. The people that use the kiosks are people that WOULDNT defecate in the street not the ones that do.

    These needle bins are symbolic gestures. We are supposed to believe a junkie will shoot heroin in an alley behind a dumpster or in a dilapidated vacant building with ten other junkies, then search for the nearest place to safely dispose of the needle.
