I think it's a fair statement. I think the deep South had more problem with race and it is taking longer for them to come to terms with it. The deep South is far more rural. That means less contact between the races. That not an excuse, but it is a reason.

Are the number of homosexuals greater or lesser in a more restrictive society. It appears that as we become less restrictive the number of homosexuals and other "non traditional lifestyles" has increased. Is this true or has there always been the same percentage but now more are becoming more open?

I have lived all over the place, North and South. I haven't seen that. What I have seen is that big city liberals have managed to get blacks into one area, the slums.
