Bruce boycotting States with Leftists activists kind of puts that into perspective.

In retrospect, it was probably a mistake on my part to have written "especially of the Right-ish persuasion", even though it's true. Rather than recognize and agree with my point - that the lyrics of the song are, if anything, about the flaws in American society, and include lines like, "...go and kill the yellow man". Definitely not another 'Proud To Be An American'. That was the real point of my post - not intended to be a Right-Left thing. Sorry if my observation that politicians like to use the song at their rallies without, apparently, taking into account the song's words was obscured by my (true) observation that one Party's candidates are most likely to do so.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.” - Robert E. Howard

It's an anti-Vietnam song. Kind of stupid to do that.

What you said is right. A lot of conservatives used it and I laughed them. "She still there and he's all gone."
