College football player fatally shot and New York Giants draft pick injured in Kansas

A college football player died in an off-campus shooting Sunday morning that also injured a New York Giants NFL Draft pick. According to a statement from Washburn University, a college in Topeka, Kansas, football team member Dwane Simmons, a junior, was killed and senior Corey Ballentine was injured.



According to CBS affiliate KCTV in Kansas, the shooting occurred at 12:45 a.m. Sunday morning about a half mile from the campus. CBS affiliate WIBW-TV reports police said Simmons died in the street from a gunshot wound and that an investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.

It is a shame that meager league and college sports get their players from the dredges of society. Or maybe that is their best option. In that case who cares if one dies here or there? Plenty more out there.

I don't know about everyone else but when I was in high school the football players were all considered to be as dumb as a box of rocks.

I don't know about everyone else but when I was in high school the football players were all considered to be as dumb as a box of rocks.

I don't remember that being the case. The kids not involved in sports and extracurricular activities were generally the dumber ones.

I remember them always getting a C to stay eligible. I always saw them as dumbasses. I've never had high opinion of school athletes as students. Winning is all that matters to a school. The system is corrupt. Of course. I don't care that much. They didn't affect my life.
