SoCal has a very large population of people living largely in arid to semi-desert zones many of whom try to emulate an entirely different climate in their landscaping. It's unsustainable as are all the swimming pools and golf courses. Desalination plants are a good idea, but that water will be more costly. Perhaps it will bring a dose of reality to those who think that they are entitled to vast supplies of water in a place that rarely gets rain and where the aquifers in northern California are being sucked dry by the almond industry in particular.

    "Entitled"?

Water is a commodity. It gets paid for.

And the residential use of water consumes maybe 25% if the state's water budget. How many lawns could have been watered when Moonbeam was keeping the Sacramento River cool for a small group of fish? Shouldn't the salmon have been caught and smoked to save water?

That water is running out and soon the price tag for water will remind people that they are not living on the Atlantic coastline where it rains 30% of the year. Whether climate change is man made or cyclical, Cali is getting hotter and water is becoming less available. I can see a lot of filled in swimming pools and xeriscaping in SoCal's future. Parts of California including L.A. rely on the Colorado river for water, but guess what, the Colorado watershed is also running out of water. All water evaporates but nature is quixotic. It will oversupply some areas with rain while denying others for months on end. When your water bill starts approaching your gasoline bill, you won't be so cavalier in your water use.

A big part of the water problem in Ca is commerical water companies pulling literally Billions upon billions of gallons of water for bottled water to send around the country, canada and mexico and other places, which leaves far less water for the mass's

Your climate might allow for that. Here in San Antonio, you need to water a lot.

    I can imagine.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.
