The thing just really doesn't have the volume or the power to do a good job, IMO.

Use the oven, use a deep fryer with careful temperature control. The frying oil can be reused, if used properly.
The point of using the air fryer for me was not to use oil,

If you take freshly made french fries and just put them in the oven, they come out mushy on the inside also, you have to get the water out of the freshly cut fries, thats why its soft on the inside.

Im not saying your assessment of the air fryer is wrong, it may suck, ill find out in the next few weeks.

Also they come in different sizes, I dont know how many quart size yours was, but a 6 qt looks plenty big enough for two people in the videos ive watched

Let's face it. We like the taste of oil and grease. Sometimes it's the calories that give food flavor.

I don't eat greasy food. I cook with oil, olive oil for low heat and coconut oil for high heat.

Russet potatoes are best for the oven and even for deep frying because they are less dense and contain less water than waxier potatoes. Russets are the long ones, often still dirty. When cooked they are fluffy inside, not soggy. However if you deep fry, if the oil isn't hot enough, your fries will absorb oil and end up soggy and greasy.

However, good luck with the air fryer. I expect that russets would perform best there as well.

I hate cleaning the deep fryer - I never know what to do with the used oil. Can't put it down the drain and unless you have a handy container that will hold it all, it's pretty dicey putting it in the trash in a zip lock bag. If I've only used it for fries, it can be reused much longer than if it's been used for meat or fish. As soon as it stops smelling like oil, it's time to get rid of it or if it starts getting dark.

How do you dispose of your used oil?

I know I use them all the time, they are also called Idaho taters. They are best for baking imho.

The Air Fryer infomercials get in the way of my channel surfing. Hence, I resent the company and will not try their product.

First of all we dont deep fry anything anymore, even french fries, what Oil I do have is used for some surface frying, what I do is let it cook and soak it up on paper towels

If you have alot of deep fry oil do what I used to do, I used to save jars with lids no matter what size and wash them and keep them under the sink, after we deep fried we let the oil cool, put it in the jars closed the lid and threw it in the trash

Ok first 2 uses of the air fryer results

I made frozen french fries, we like crunchy fries, they came out perfect in 8 minutes at 400degrees, came out better than the oven. Thats a huge improvement over heating the oven then laying the fries flat on a pan and then 20-25 mins of cooking

You can pile the fries up in the air fryer halfway through I pulled out the drawer and shook them and mixed them and slid it back in and it turned on automattically and finished.

I had frozen breaded and fried eggplant, I put them in the air fryer frozen, 10mins on 400 and they can out on the crispy side perfect.

My wife and I love cauliflower balls, chunks of cauliflower dipped in egg and bread crumps and fried, in the recipe book it says they come out great in 10 mins. Im going to try that and baked patato.

Asparagus you can paint with olive oil and season and pop in for a 6 mins,

It saves alot of time for fries and things you would heat or cook from frozen.

The chicken breats you buy that are pre breaded but not frozen supposedly come out great in the air fryer. Ill give that a try but ill use fresh breasts.

A friends wife said she loves her air fryer now but hated the first one she bought. She said the cheaper ones just dont cut it. She bought a better one and it was night and day she said.
