This is more where I was going with the OP. It is about being recorded 24 hours a day by every single device. Personally I have disabled my smart tv and do not have it hooked up to the internet. We have a computer hooked up to it instead. I have disabled the speakers inside of my computers, I have no smart devices, and no cell phones. Now I sound like an ancient dinosaur, LoL. It was hard to make the choice, but tech is just as addiction. Once we have it we think we cant live without it. But actually we can. The cell phones are so convenient. They have so many uses. I didn't ditch the devices because of the spying though. I ditched them to not have wi-fi in my home. It was a win win. It was hard at first, but now I am glad I did it.

So true. I also don't have a webcam. When I did have a phone, I put tape over the cam.

Well said. It's not just the technology, it's everything. Remember when you'd get up and go play with your friends all day? You had to make sure you were home for dinner, that's all. Your mother didn't worry b/c she didn't have to. We'd go on campouts. Hikes. Bike rides. Now, we're afraid to let the kids out of our sight b/c they aren't safe. It is sad. Very sad.

I remember those days, too, but the notion that crimes against children have dramatically increased in the last forty or fifty years is a myth. It is simply that back in the '60s and '70s, there was no Internet, and for a story to make the national news - which at that time consisted of the daily newspaper and the three major networks' evening broadcast - it had to be something more than a child being molested, kidnapped or even, in most cases, killed. Most people today think nothing of turning on the news, whether t.v., radio or Internet, and seeing or hearing a story about a local crime on the other side of the continent. And with the 24-hour-news cycle on several cable channels, you can be in Arizona or Ohio and hear all about a vehicle pileup on a New York freeway or a restaurant robbery in Florida and we just assume that it has always been like that.

Keep in mind that your smart tv if not disabled will still be recording, and sending info back to somewhere. I know Samsung, and Vizio, and others were involved in this. I happen to have a Samsung TV. I also think they would be bored recording me. But it is the principle. Do we really want to consent to being recorded in the privacy of our own homes. I feel that it is a serious invasion of privacy to the highest degree. Our most personal conversations being recorded. That bothers me. Even if it just audio. But they are also tracking every single thing we watch. I just don't like it. It is strange what we consent to over time.

I disabled the speakers just for extra caution. I don't need them. It was unnecessary I am sure. But I want to cut off all possible avenues of possibly being recorded. I know that when I am on the computer every single key stroke is recorded and sent through a fusion center. But I am consenting because I know it is happening. Unplug your coffee maker when not in use. Its really a video recorder that flips on and off all day if you do not. That goes for Kuerigs as well . j,k

Funny but many people do have smart appliances and those really do record you day and night.

I never use the voice commands for my Samsung. I find it annoying having to repeat things. Hubby has more patience. However if Samsung wants to hear Hubby talking to the TV like it's a hard of hearing moron, they can make their day. I will of course let him know that it is recording him. Speakers can't do anything other than transmit audio output.

Digital assistants are a little more worrisome. They are never off.
