Texas Poised To Ban All Red Light Cameras

About time. The only ticket I've gotten on the last 50 years, discounting one the judge dismissed, was for not coming to a complete stop doing a right turn at a red light caught on camera.

Texas Poised To Ban All Red Light Cameras

If Texas cities want to fine drivers into the poor house, they're going to have to do it the old-fashioned way—with actual law enforcement officers. A bill to ban red light cameras has passed the Texas Legislature and is heading to Gov. Greg Abbott's desk. He's expected to sign it.

Red light cameras were allegedly introduced to reduce collisions with an automated system that sent tickets and fines to those who ran through intersections. Or, at least, that's what drivers were told.

The reality is that cities use red light cameras as a source of revenue, not for public safety....

California has changed it's license plates to yellow-on-black to enable the red light Nazis to better see, in preparation for the time when they change the laws to allow them to once again extort funds from the people.

I want to see arguments from stupid people claiming those things are fir safety, not extortion.

Here in the phoenix area they not only get you for running red lights they issue speeding tickets too. A friend of a friend's nephew's sister got one in a car I owned. I had to give photographic evidence to a third party that runs the cameras for the cops proving I was not the girl in the car driving. A hassle but no summons was issued.

I'm agin-it on principle. It's anti-American and punitive putting law enforcement in the hands of third party contractors and gives inanimate equipment police powers over people.

There are several issues with those 'Red Light' tickets.... you cannot 'face your accuser', and several I have seen (not received by me) actually state that not paying them cannot affect your Driver's License or insurance.

So, basically, 'Please pay us because we ask you to'. Most people will, some sort of innate guilt thing, I guess.

I once got charge for driving the toll road up in Dallas, 300 miles north of me. The photo evidence they sent was one letter off on the license plate, I forget now, like the difference between 0 the letter and 0 the number. I called and pointed it out and they dropped the charge.

I fly my flag high on this great state.
I am tired of everyone fighting with each other. This is all by design.

The private companies that, in most cases, own, operate and service the red light cameras will specify in their contracts that the timing of the lights they're monitoring cannot be changed to prevent accidents - extending the time that the amber light is on, for instance - because that would also result in a reduction of revenue for them.

All of the major intersections here in the Phoenix area, and most of the lesser ones, have a pedestrian count-down display, which as a driver I find invaluable. If you're approaching an intersection and the display is almost to zero, you can readily estimate whether you're going to get to the intersection in time and begin to slow down if the answer is no. You can see that a light is about to go amber from half a block away.
