People should be able to grow and eat what they want to grow and eat. Who is stopping them? She says (paraphrasing) "If I go into a White community and say, 'You're going to grow plantains and yucca...'"; is she suggesting that some outsiders are going into predominately minority neighborhoods and forcing them to grow things that they don't want to grow? Very odd.
When she talks about how people involved in community development projects need to listen to the community's leaders and take their direction from those people, I thought of this story from five years ago. Anyone else remember it?

In a nutshell, Trader Joe's was going to build a store in a predominately Black neighborhood in Portland, Oregon. "Community leaders" (most of whom the neighborhood residents identified as people who didn't even live there anymore) placed so many demands on both the city and the company in return for their cooperation with the plan, and condemned the whole thing as an attempt at "gentrification", that Trader Joe's abandoned the idea.
BTW, I love cauliflower. Add some cheese sauce and I will make a whole meal of it.

Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

I also like broccoli a lot...and Brussels sprouts in small quantities. I picked up an efficient little steamer at Target years ago and it does any of that stuff to perfection. My nurse practitioner says I should eat them raw, but they just don't taste all that good to me like that - especially the broccoli.
